HOPE WHEN THE FOOD ROOM IS EMPTY

They Praised Before the Answer Came (told by a Team Member who traveled to DR Congo)

I was there that day.  Our RLM team arrived at a home caring for children and young adults with disabilities. They recognized our leader, Julie, and gathered around us, brought out their instruments and began to sing and praise God.  They weren't singing because we had brought them something.

What they didn't know….we had brought food.

What we didn’t know…that morning, their food had run out.

Their storage room was completely empty, and they had prayed, “God, please help us to eat today.”

Their pastor and leader—the man who had become like a father to them—had left because he couldn't bear to watch his children suffer from hunger.

What he didn't know….we were coming with food that day.

While we waited for the pastor / leader to return, the children kept singing. Their voices truly sounded like angels.

Once he arrived and we greeted him, we began unloading the truck.

Food.

He was overwhelmed. The answer to the prayer they had prayed that morning had arrived while they were still praising.

RLM has continued helping provide food for this home month after month.

A story:  One young woman living there had been confined to a wheelchair.  She had one simple desire: she wanted to stand. She prayed, and later shared that while lying in bed she felt God touch her and strength come into her legs. Today, with crutches, she is able to stand and take a few steps.

Pastor is still dreaming, too. He shared a vision for a better building, a church, a school and teachers who can help these young people learn and grow.

Their circumstances are difficult. But listen to them sing

and you will hear something much louder than their circumstances.  What we see is disability, God sees as His Child.

You will hear hope.

Sometimes all we can do is praise ... while the answer is already on its way.
