Food Relief Needed: $1500 extra per month
CRISIS CAUSES INCREASE IN FOOD COSTS
As a result of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, food and gas prices in DRCongo have risen about 30% since January. This has resulted in a $3,000 budget shortfall for March and April. Also, in January, RLM designated resources to give two cups of porridge to each of the 200 children. Now, in order to feed 450 children, each child receives only one cup of porridge three days each week.
FEEDING PROGRAM - Additional 250 children
Kavumu = 325 children, one meal a day, 5 days a week
Luwindja = 200 children, one meal a day, 3 days a week (*2 cups of porridge)
*Due to price increase, meals were reduced to 1 cup
NEEDED: support for 2 cups of porridge for 200 + 250 more kids in need = 450 total
$4000 / month is needed to pay for the increased food prices and add more children
CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM - Additional 115 families
This program has proven very effective. In the last seven years, over 100 families have become self-sustaining and no longer need support from RLM. In addition, these women are helping to train other families in growing gardens, raising chickens, and becoming self-supporting.
• Add all 115 widow-led families to the Child Sponsorship Program. This will cost $500/family for a year. (or $45/month )
EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF CARE PACKAGES - 1500 families
RLM plans to coordinate with 10 churches to help support approximate 1500 Families = $1000 per church
